How to put your best face forward during Zoom calls
With Zoom calls becoming the new normal for work meetings, happy hours, and even family gatherings, it's more important than ever to make sure you put your best face forward during Zoom calls. Although you may not be able to control the wifi connection or the lighting in your home, there are some things you can do to make sure your skin looks its best on screen.
1. Start with a clean slate:
Just like you would before any in-person meeting, it's important to start with a clean base. Make sure you've washed your face and applied any necessary treatments so that your skin is prepped and ready for makeup.
2. Choose the right foundation:
When it comes to finding the right foundation for Zoom calls, it's all about finding one that offers buildable coverage without looking cakey on screen. We recommend opting for a light-to-medium coverage foundation that contains SPF—this will help ensure your skin looks smooth, even, and radiant on camera.
3. Conceal problem areas:
Once you've applied foundation, use concealer to target any areas you want to cover up—under-eye circles, blemishes, etc. Again, when it comes to concealer less is more—you don't want your makeup to look heavy or cakey on screen.
4. Set your makeup:
After applying foundation and concealer, set your makeup with powder or a setting spray so that it stays in place throughout your call. This step is especially important if you have oily skin—you don't want your face to appear shiny on screen!
5. Focus on the eyes:
Since we tend to communicate mostly through facial expressions and body language, it's important to make sure your eyes are visible on camera. We recommend using an eyelash curler to curl your lashes and adding a coat of mascara or two—this will help open up your eyes and make them pop on screen.
6. Add a touch of color:
To add a bit of life back into our complexions (which can look a bit washed out on Zoom), we love using blush or bronzer—something that will give our faces a healthy-looking glow. A quick sweep across the apples of our cheeks does the trick!
7. Don't forget the lips:
And finally, don't forget about the lips! If you're going for a natural look, stick with a lip balm or clear gloss—nothing too crazy or over-the-top. But if you want something with a bit more oomph, opt for a sheer lipstick or lip tint in a natural hue—this will help add some color and definition back into your lips without looking too done up on camera.
Achieving the perfect Zoom-ready complexion doesn't have to be complicated—a few simple steps is all it takes! You can create a polished look that will help you feel confident during those dreaded video calls.
